From Routine to Renaissance

The Brushstroke of Consistency in Crafting Successful Outcomes

William Quetzalcoatl Morales was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. His parents named him after the Mexican god that symbolizes freedom—and yes, that is his middle name and his artistic name. Quetzalcoatl began his career in 1983 at the Andy Bueso Art Academy. Later, he studied under Spanish painter José Azaustre and then traveled to New York, where he studied at the Pratt Institute and FIT. I met him at an ad agency, where we became best friends for many years to come and were present in the development and opening of his first shows.

Quetzalcoatl names his works according to his experiences in life and has carved a niche for himself as a highly successful surrealist painter in Puerto Rico. He is renowned for his expansive oil canvases that adorn the walls of high-end homes, transforming spaces into gateways to otherworldly visions.

Catching up with William recently, I expressed my admiration for the volume of his output. I asked him how he keeps it up, genuinely curious about the secret behind his relentless creativity and unique view of the world. With a chuckle, he replied, “Consistency transforms average into excellence, and excellence turns me on.”

I loved that. It was an ah-ha moment that connected my admiration for his work with the profound simplicity of what sticking to a routine can do.

I brought it to the team, and we talked at length about our daily work and past learnings. Consistency in anything you practice could lead to mastery, but it seemingly could do so much more. It builds character, grows audiences, and, as evident from William’s work, can fill galleries. Spurred by these thoughts, we started searching for inspiration and found it in Jay Jones’ Black Entrepreneur Business podcast.

Jay Jones is an entrepreneur, author, coach, speaker, and podcast host who works with entrepreneurs worldwide to help them launch, build, and grow successful, sustainable businesses. His episode “How to Change Your Life and Business Using the Power of Consistency” mirrored many of William’s applied learnings, which is what we’d like to share today. Here’s what consistency can do for you and a few tips on how to achieve it.

1. Consistency Builds Trust and Credibility

Consistency in actions and delivery helps establish trust and credibility, fostering long-term relationships and positive referrals.
To achieve it, implement a reliable system for tracking commitments and deadlines to ensure you always deliver on promises. Use tools like project management software to stay organized and transparent with your team and clients. It’s all about regular communication and following through on promises.

2. Consistency Enhances Productivity and Efficiency

Implementing consistent routines and habits can significantly improve productivity by minimizing errors and streamlining operations.
Start each day by identifying the top three tasks that will have the most significant impact on your goals. Focus on completing these tasks before moving on to less critical activities. Your overall goal is to practice daily prioritization of tasks.

3. Consistency Establishes a Strong Brand Presence

Consistency in branding, messaging, and visual identity helps a business stand out, creating a memorable and recognizable brand. People share more things they feel are reliable, and regularity fosters trust.
Regularly review all your marketing materials and digital presence to ensure they align with your brand guidelines. This includes social media profiles, marketing collateral, and your website. A cohesive brand image and message make your business more recognizable and memorable, which is essential in a crowded market.

4. Consistency Cultivates Discipline and Resilience

Discipline developed through consistency has a positive ripple effect, helping to overcome challenges and uncertainties and making one stronger.
Setting and adhering to personal and professional boundaries is key. Learn to say no to requests or opportunities that do not align with your core objectives or that would overextend your resources. Maintaining boundaries helps in managing stress, preventing burnout, and ensuring sustained effort towards goals.

5. Consistency Facilitates Continuous Improvement

Consistency allows for the evaluation and improvement of strategies, leading to informed decisions and optimized outcomes.
Schedule regular review sessions for your personal and business strategy, involving those you trust in the process to gain diverse insights and foster constant improvement in both areas. Use metrics and feedback to guide adjustments in your business, and develop mindful awareness of yourself to reveal the small, consistent steps you can take to be your best and remain in the zone for longer periods of time.

For budding entrepreneurs, William and Jay’s learnings and experiences underscore the importance of forging your own path, embracing the unique quirks that set you apart, and the unwavering pursuit of your passion.

Let William's ascent inspire you to not only dream big but to anchor those dreams in the consistent, daily actions that turn the seemingly impossible into your reality. Remember, the essence of entrepreneurship lies not in the magnitude of the idea, but in the relentless pursuit of that vision, making each day a step towards the masterpiece of your career.
