The Entrepreneur's Guide to Balanced Success
Gently Make Wellness a Part of Your Blueprint
This came to me when someone let me know how healthy they were keeping things to themselves by “running a business” while physically running around in the office and addressing that as “wellness!”
As it happened, there was a bend around a corner where our protagonist would constantly either bump into people or—trying to avoid them—strike his hip hard against a swivel chair. Someone said, “You need to rethink this,” meaning he was bumping into too many people and desks in the office, but he took it on on a bigger scale. “I need to re-address this wellness thing.”
His main issue with wellness, he found, was how menacing the task seemed, so he broke it down. We've taken a page from his, and share it it here with you.
As we head into 2024, we have done “Five Essential Exercises for Entrepreneurs to Review the Past Year” and “Unlocking Clarity and Focus with Purposeful Awareness,” so here we now—think AMSR—present “How to Gently Make Wellness a Part of Your Blueprint.” Imagine reading the rest in a sensory whisper, if that helps.
Step 1: Ease into a Wellness Routine
How: Schedule 30 minutes of new physical activity into your daily calendar, just like an important meeting. But here’s the ease-into part: just get as far as you feel you want to.
Why: Regular exercise increases energy levels and focus, turning you into a productivity powerhouse. Adding even a little amplifies your energy and sharpens your focus, leading to greater productivity in your endeavors.
Step 2: Find Enjoyment in Mental Wellness Practices
How: Dedicate 20 minutes each day for journaling or a hobby that relaxes you or leave yourself a message and listen to it back. If you already journal, add a page where you talk about observations from past entries or time invested in something for pure pleasure.
Why: Indulging in favorite activities boosts mental sharpness and emotional steadiness, key to sound decisions. Make time for introspection.
Step 3: Get Those Regular Health Check-ups
How: Set a reminder for bi-annual health check-ups with your healthcare provider. This one you can do right now.
Why: Consistent health monitoring ensures you’re always in top shape to tackle business challenges.
Step 4: Work-Life Balance
How: Define clear work hours and stick to them; turn off work notifications post-work. Unplugging needs to be part of the day. It’s what sets the right tone for refreshing the whole system. Disconnect and detox.
Why: Establishing boundaries helps prevent burnout, ensuring you’re as productive in your personal life as in business. A body free of the weight of toxins—distractions and chemicals brought on by stress—is a more efficient body.
Step 5: Promote Wellness in Your Surroundings
How: Implement a weekly wellness activity for your team at work or family at home, and keep something as simple as healthy snack options on hand.
Why: When people value wellness, they are more engaged, happy, and productive, and this goes doubly for people who are at least aware that they are valuing wellness together.
One of the common actions that has been found in the greatest number of successful people is exercise, particularly in the way of walking or running. It seems that the need to establish the routine through a) commitment and discipline and b) consistency to then receive and use c) its physical and mental health benefits is like a perpetual motion machine of positive feedback. You get good at what you practice and practicing all three leads to great improvement.
As we step up to the end of the year, practice getting to your next level of wellness in any way you can. Aim for a healthier, more balanced approach to life.
